Notability becomes a free app with optional annual subscription
If you’ve read our latest post Welcome to the Next Generation of Notability, 11.0, you saw that Notability is now a free app with an annual subscription option (pricing varies by region). Our pricing structure is shifting, and will now have an annual subscription option.
Changing our business model will allow us to release more frequent updates and features, support new services like the Notability Gallery, make Notability available for free to educational institutions, and available to everyone as a free app to try. Our previous one-time paid upfront model made it difficult to continue to advance and innovate our app.
If you’re a current user:
Thank you for your support all these years. You will be able to continue using Notability as you do now. Everyone who purchased Notability prior to our switch to subscription on November 1st, 2021 will have lifetime access to all existing features and any content previously purchased in the app. This includes the core Notability experience that users know and love, including unlimited editing, iCloud sync, and any features or content that was previously purchased through the Notability Shop. Future features we develop may also be included, depending on their complexity and cost to maintain.

You can get started using Notability right away for free on your iPad, iPhone, or Mac (download it here). With the free version of our app, you’ll be able to enjoy most features with limited editing.
As a subscriber, you’ll get the FULL and incredibly rich Notability experience! This means you’ll have unlimited note taking and access to an array of exciting content and technology, including Handwriting Recognition, Math Conversion, hand-crafted stickers, 2022 planner options (previously priced at $19.99 separately), and much more!
Notability is now FREE for institutions
For the first time ever, we’re able to offer Notability for free to educational institutions through Apple School Manager, an Apple education portal available in over 60 countries. Schools that use Apple School Manager can download free copies of Notability for use on MDM iPads. This version includes our full feature set with unlimited usage, MyScript Handwriting Recognition, handwriting to text conversion, and Math Conversion.
